It looks like all the Yankees needed was the All-Star break. Since coming back from the break, they have won eight straight games. Their latest win, lead by Andy Pettitte, was a 10-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are now just one game within Boston and three games behind Tampa Bay.

Josh Hamilton shines in the first round of the Home Run Derby by hitting 28, which set a new all-time record for any round of the derby to date. However, he didn’t have enough in the final round to beat Justin Morneau.

Damion Easley hit a homerun in the eighth inning against the Colorado Rockies to lift the Mets in a 2-1 win. The Mets have now won seven straight games. This was also the fourth straight game where they have kept their opponent to only three hits.

Moises Alou, left fields for the New York Mets, has a torn left hamstring which will end his season. This injury could possibly end his career as well. Surgery is not required but is recommended in order for Alou to have the best recovery. Unfortunately for Alou, he hasn’t played as much lately in the past seasons due to injuries. In fact, he hasn’t played more than 100 games in a season since 2005.

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired CC Sabathia from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for four prospects. This trade definitely favors the present time and not the future for the Brewers. Since they had to place Jeff Suppan on the 15 day DL, they now have the room needed for Sabathia. Sabathia is set to become a free agent at the end of the season so we’ll have to see if the Brewers will resign him or not.

Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees hit home run number 536 tonight to tie Mickey Mantle on the all time home run list at 13th. He is now 12 home runs behind Mike Schmidt, who has 548.

Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals became the fifth youngest player in MLB history to hit his 300th home run. The youngest person to ever accomplish this feat was Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. Rodriuez was 27 years and 249 days old while Pujols is 28 years and 170 days old.
